One Month of Better Offline

Edward Zitron 2 min read

Hello!

I have been deliberately not dropping every episode of my new show iHeartRadio/Cool Zone Media show Better Offline onto the newsletter feed, as I don't want to start sending you two emails a week, or make you feel like you're being spammed. I am deeply anxious about sending this kind of email, so please do not unsubscribe, and ideally do not get mad at me.

What I am planning to do is a (short) monthly newsletter running down the last few episodes. I'd be really grateful if you'd subscribe, download and listen to each one - this is a huge deal to me and I'd be extremely grateful if you'd do it, as well as give Better Offline a five-star rating. Yes, this is the exact thing I make fun of YouTubers for, feel free to mock me for it, but also, please do subscribe, download and listen.

I'll be linking to Apple, Spotify and Google Podcasts below, but you can find all the other links and the RSS feed here.

  • The Rot Economy (featuring Robert Evans) - Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts - I'm joined by Cool Zone Media's Robert Evans to walk through The Rot Economy, the economic force destroying innovation in tech.
  • An Autopsy Of Apple's Vision Pro - Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts - I walk you through my personal experience and review of Apple's $3500 face computer, and talk with the Wall Street Journal's Joanna Stern about what exactly Apple thinks they're playing at with such an unfinished product.
  • How The Winklevoss Brothers Lost A Billion Dollars - Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts - Remember the Winklevoss brothers? The identical riverboat twins that Mark Zuckerberg stole Facebook from? Well, they're back, and they lost a billion dollars of their customers money from their crypto exchange Gemini.
  • The Metaverse: How Mark Zuckerberg Lied To The World - Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts - In 2021, Mark Zuckerberg changed Facebook's name to "Meta," crowning himself the herald of the metaverse. The metaverse, of course, didn't actually exist - yet for just over a year, it absorbed the attention of most of the tech industry, burning billions of dollars of investor capital to create absolutely nothing.
  • Musk's Uncharitable Charity (featuring David Fahrenthold) - Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts - Elon Musk, the founder of zip2 and current owner of cursed website X.com/Twitter, also has a giant non-profit called The Musk Foundation. Yet unlike most multi-billion dollar non-profits, The Musk Foundation barely donates anything, with most of its money going to Musk-aligned causes and businesses. I'm joined by David Fahrenthold of the New York Times - best-known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning investigations into Donald Trump's dodgy non-profit situation - who walks me through what he's found out about Musk's remarkably uncharitable charity work.
  • How Growth Is Killing Tech's Innovation (featuring Robert Evans) - Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts - Ever wonder why Silicon Valley stopped making anything new or interesting? It's because of the same growth-at-all-costs mindset that's destroyed the rest of the tech ecosystem. I'm joined by Robert Evans to discuss how venture capital demolished tech's ability to innovate by forcing the smartest people in the world to work on the dumbest things ever invented.

As discussed, I will only drop one of these once a month. I really appreciate your support, and hope you enjoy the show.
